What do we think about old jewelry safes?

Well, this was a question that was aimed at just getting me to talk for a while. I classify old jewelry safes in two categories: those that are too old to rock'n'roll and those that are too young to die.

A jewelry safe that is too old to have a UL Burglary label, is probably unable to withstand a serious burglary attack. I might be wrong about that, but I certainly would not want to risk my valuables in that kind of old jewelry safe.

An old jewlry safe that has a UL label and with hinges that are in good shape, will probably make a good used safe. "What is the sign of a safe with hinges that need to hit the treadmill?" the customer asked but I paraphrased. My first clue is when the hinges make such loud popping noises as you open and close the door. "Step away from the safe" says the Safest Man on Earth in those occasions.
